Ffynnon Wen, Cardiff

A 17th century built pub at one time called the Plumbers Mate. 

An old fashioned country feel low ceiling public house with had a restaurant extension in 1997.  Easily accessible from Thornhill road and offers plenty of car parking space.

Serving real ale.

Translated into English Ffynnon Wen means white well.

The Heathcock, Llandaff

The Heathcock was originally two houses before been converted to a pub in the 1930s.  At one time called the Black Grouse - a bird at one time seen breeding on the river Taff nearby. 

Located close to Llandaff Cathedral.  Beer garden to the rear of pub. 

Guest beer sold throughout the year. 

Curries at one time supplied by the Cinnamon curry house in Pontcanna.

The Black Griffin Inn, Lisvane

A 400 year old public house standing opposite St Denys Church in Lisvane on the outskirts of Cardiff.  At one time three separate cottages which were later converted into one building namely the Griffin. 

Oliver Cromwell stayed at the public house during the Civil war.

Was known as the Griffin Inn but changed to the Black Griffin Inn in 2005.  Real ale served.

The Gower, Cardiff

Built in 1895 and one of the few pubs in Wales that boasts a snooker table which is highly prized by the locals!  A Brains pub off the beaten track and originally opened as part of a railway station building.

During 1950s the Gower sold food and drink to passing trade from the bar.  It is said at one time a bar existed in the snooker room as well. 

Premises apparently haunted by a ghost known as Henry.

Dempseys, Cardiff

Irish themed pub built in the Victorian era.  Previously known as the Globe and the Four Bars.  Changed its name to Dempseys at the turn of the millennium.

Popular with Celtic football club supporters

Reputedly haunted.

Flora, Cardiff

Victorian Brains pub whose name derives from a local street.  One of the few pubs in Cardiff still using its original name. 

Popular with students.  Refurbished late 1990s.

Royal Oak, Broadway, Cardiff

Historic boxing themed pub built in the early 1890s.  Boxing gym upstairs was used by former WBO Featherweight Champion Steve Robinson.  Peerless Jim Driscoll also associated with the pub.  Bar walls covered with boxing photographs.

Bar still has original stained glass windows and fittings. 

At one time the only Brains pub to serve SA by gravity.

Beer garden.

Cottage, Splott, Cardiff

Built in 1900 and located near the magic roundabout. 

Before refurbishment in the late 1990s the pub had a strong rugby theme with memorabilia on walls. 

Friendly pub with karaoke evenings.

Romilly, Cardiff

Romilly, CardiffA Brains pub built in 1898 and originally a coach house. 

Refurbished in early 2001 and serving food all day.  Beer garden an extra attraction during the long summer months!

Dartboard but no pool table.

Cayo, Cardiff

At one time called the Apollo Hotel but changed its name to the Cayo in 2001.  Pub named after William Julian Cayo-Evans leader of the Free Wales Army in the 1960s.  Popular with Welsh speakers.

Serving real ale and good food.  In 2001-02 won the CAMRA pub of the year.

Marquee often up during major sporting occasions.
