The Buck Inn, Newtown
Submitted by PubsCymru on
The once private timber framed house dates back to the 17th century. Located on the High Street and is easily one of Newtown’s oldest buildings.
By the 19th century the Buck had became a licensed inn and has been much refurbished over the many but fortunately losing none of its original character. Many of its original features survived which includes the heavy oak door, timber framed partitions and chamfered ceiling beams.
It is said that the blocked up door which exists in the cellar leads underground to the site of the old Hall. The Hall itself was demolished in 1965. Tradition has it as well that Charles I actually stayed at the premises.
