Owain Glyndŵr, Corwen
Submitted by PubsCymru on
Located in Market Square, Corwen and dates back to 1329. Before becoming a coaching inn the Owain Glyndwr was originally a monastery in the grounds of the church. Later the inn was named after the legendary and mythical Owain Glyndwr.
It housed the first Eisteddfod in 1789 and an extension was made to the building. In the following century coaches such as the Royal Mail called regularly at the hotel and it soon became an important hostelry on the old London to Holyhead turnpike road.
The Owain Glyndwr still retains it oak beamed ceilings and panelled walls. Along with a residents bar it has two bars.
