The Horse and Jockey, Pontymoel

A 500 year old inn located on the Usk road about a mile from Pontypool.  It is a thatched building standing opposite St Michael church and during the 17^th century was used as a vicarage.  Formerly known as the Jockey or the Jockey Pitch.

Tradition has it the Horse and Jockey was a popular haunt for the thirsty ironworkers of nearby Pontypool.

The interior has been much changed over the years and the oldest part of the inn is the lounge, which has a low beamed ceiling and inglenook.

A long lost relic (fortunately sketched by Fred Hando) is a ceramic jug measuring over two feet high which could have carried 13 and a half gallons of beer!

Reputedly haunted by a ghost called Martha.

Has a decent size beer garden and children’s play area.
